ACU Library guide to referencing in APA7 style

Formatting

Notes

  • The heading “References” is in bold and centered at the top of a new page after the text.
  • The reference list is double spaced, both within and between entries. No specific font type or size is required.
  • The second and subsequent lines of a reference have a hanging indent.
  • The references are arranged alphabetically by author family name.
  • For works by the same authors in the same year, use (2015a) (2015b). Arrange alphabetically by title.
  • If there is no author move the title to the author position.
  • Spell out the full name of a group author, for example, Australian Catholic University.
  • Convert DOIs (digital object identifiers) and URLs into live links within the reference list.
  • If there is no date, the abbreviation n.d. may be used.
  • Use the full journal name, not the abbreviated name.
  • Use pp for book chapter pages, but not for journal articles.
  • APA provides sample papers formatted in APA7 Style both with and without annotated comments.
