Notes

  • The first time you reference scripture, include the first element from your Works Cited list in the in-text citation, followed by the book title, chapter and verse numbers. For example, The Bible, Rev. 21.3. For subsequent references to the same work, only the book title, chapter and verse numbers are needed. For example, John 14.17-29. Page numbers are not necessary.
  • In the body of your paper, general references to works like the Bible, Talmud, and the Koran should not be italicised unless you are referring to a specific edition, such as the New Jerusalem Bible.
  • If the version you're citing is not a first edition, list the edition number after the title in the Works Cited list, followed by "ed.". For example, 3rd ed.
