ACU Library guide to Chicago B: author-date referencing style

Formatting

Notes

  • The heading “References” is in bold and centered at the top of the list.
  • Add a blank line space between the reference entries.
  • Entries in the reference list should be alphabetical by author last name.
  • Successive references for the same author are arranged by year, but if two references have both the same author and same year, use 2015a 2015b.
  • If there is no named author, use the title ignoring any articles (a, an or the).
  • Use a hanging indent for each entry (the second and subsequent lines are indented).
  • Spell out the full name of a group author.
