For 4 or more authors:

  • In the reference list, cite all the authors.
  • In the in-text citation, cite the last name of the first author together with 'et. al.'

Secondary citation

In Section 15.56, The Chicago Manual of Style discourages the quoting of secondary sources. However, if it cannot be avoided, include the original author and date in the text. Cite the secondary source in reference list as that is the one you have consulted.
