Notes

  • The full rule for journal articles can be found at Rule 5 on p 91.
  • Journal articles which are only published online, should to the extent possible, be cited in the same way as printed journals. If the article has an article number, this should be used instead of starting page number (AGLC Rule 5.10).
  • Author names should be provided as they appear in the publication.
  • If there are two or three authors, include the names of all authors with 'and' between the last two authors.
  • If there are more than three authors, the name of the first author should be included, followed by 'et al'.
  • ‘The’ should not be included at the start of the journal title
  • For journals organised by year rather than by volume number, the year of publication should appear in square brackets (see Townsend example above).
  • In the bibliography, the first author's name is inverted with the surname appearing first.
  • Bibliography entries do not end with a full stop. They also don't have a pinpoint.
