How to find and use metrics to support a grant application

Citing Articles

Find evidence of the reach and influence of your publications by analysing the publications that cite your research.
Analyse:
•    who (Institutions and authors) is citing your work 
•    where they are from (affiliation and country)
•    the subject areas are they associated with.

Citing article analysis in Scopus

  1. Perform an author search in Scopus.
  2. Click on your name to open your Scopus author profile.
  3. Click the Cited by Documents tab and view list in search results format.
  4. Click Analyze search results.
  5. Analyse these documents by:
    • Author
    • Affiliation
    • Country/territory
    • Subject area (this shows if there is uptake in areas beyond your immediate discipline).
  6. Export the data to CSV or Excel for analysis.
Example statement:

My publications in Scopus have been cited internationally, including researchers in Europe, China and North America from institutions such as University of Groningen and the University of California (Scopus, Dec 2022).

Citing article analysis in Web of Science

  1. Perform an author search in Web of Science.
  2. Click on your name to view your Author Record. Note if your name occurs more than once in the results, select each instance and view as a combined record.
  3. Locate the number of Citing Articles in the Metrics Panel (on the right hand side of the page), and click on the hyperlink.
  4. On the Citing Articles results page, Click on Analyze Results, then select Countries/Regions, Authors, or Affiliations from the drop-down menu.
  5. View the analysis in a chart or table and download to Excel for analysis.
