AI basics

We delve into the fascinating realm of GenAI and how you might apply it responsibly to your studies at ACU.

Checklist for responsible use of AI

Generative AI (GenAI) tools can be powerful aids for learning, teaching, and research, but they must be used thoughtfully and ethically. Before using GenAI, ask yourself the following questions to ensure you are applying it responsibly and in line with university expectations.

GenAI use checklist

Did I check my unit guidelines and university policies to confirm AI use is permitted for this assessment?

Do I take complete ownership of my final submission, and can I explain my work if questioned?

Is the core analysis, argument, or creative work genuinely my own, reflecting my thinking and voice?

Did I use AI to enhance rather than replace my critical thinking and personal contribution, ensuring also that any grammar/phrasing help still reflects my own voice and understanding?

Have I fact-checked AI-generated content and confirmed all citations and references are real and accurate?

Does the output contain bias, misinformation, or content that marginalises individuals or groups? .

Am I using others' work, images, or voices with proper permission and attribution?

Do I know how the AI tool handles my prompts, files, and personal data, and does this comply with university policies?

Have I clearly stated where and how I used AI tools (e.g. in footnotes, acknowledgements or cover page), and referenced them correctly according to ACU’s Referencing Guide?

Did I save transcripts or logs of my AI interactions for accountability and transparency?
