  • A doi (digital object identifier) is assigned by the publisher to most journal articles.
  • Look for the doi on the first page of the article.
  • For articles from most academic databases that do not have a doi cite the print version of the article instead.
  • Copy and paste the doi or url directly into the reference list to avoid transcription errors.
  • If the url or doi is very long, a functioning, shortened link can be used.
  • Capitalise each main word of the Journal Title.
  • The volume number is always in italics.
  • For multiple authors check the author layout table for in-text and reference list format.

  • If there are 21 or more authors on a paper enter the first 19 names then … (an ellipsis) and the last author listed.
